Proteus Waterproofing and ACO Building Drainage Unite to Revolutionize Blue Roof Design

[Rayleigh Essex, Sept. 10, 2024] – Proteus Waterproofing, a leading provider of waterproof solutions, has announced a strategic partnership with ACO Building Drainage, a specialist in water management. The collaboration aims to enhance the design and installation of blue roofs by integrating ACO’s innovative RoofBloxx blue roof attenuation system into every project undertaken by Proteus.

The RoofBloxx system represents a breakthrough in roof water storage and irrigation, efficiently collecting and directing rainwater runoff to safeguard buildings against extreme weather. The partnership between Proteus and ACO shows the potential for innovation and efficiency, and sets a new standard for waterproofing practices in the construction industry.

“ACO’s RoofBloxx serves as a versatile roof attenuation solution, suitable not just for blue roofs but also for green and blue/green roofs,” said a representative from ACO. “Its durable, adjustable geocellular storage void and roof outlet flow control system function as an effective drainage layer, proving beneficial across various roof types.”

The partnership will make blue roof installations easier and faster, which also lets Proteus create custom design packages that fit each project’s needs. The team at Proteus conducts thorough initial site inspections—both in-person and through drone technology—to enhance accuracy during the design and installation stages, and it’s this meticulous approach that helps to minimize mistakes and reduce the need for reworks. Key services included in Proteus’s blue roof design package feature precise U-Value calculations, condensation risk analysis, fire risk compliance assessments, wind uplift evaluations, and drainage calculations.

Successful partnerships hinge on trust, which plays a significant role in preventing the common pitfalls that lead to a high failure rate in professional collaborations. According to McKinsey, over 60% of partnerships face difficulties, often due to poor trust and communication (38%). However, with over twelve years of experience for Proteus and nearly forty years for ACO, both companies come with proven track records and outstanding reputations.

Alignment on core values and goals also greatly influences partnership success. McKinsey identifies misalignment in objectives as the second leading cause of partnership breakdowns (35%). Proteus and ACO share a commitment to sustainable waterproofing and protection solutions. Proteus emphasizes environmental protection through blue roofs, which help improve air quality, prevent building damage, and mitigate the risk of flash floods exacerbated by climate change. ACO complements this mission with innovative drainage solutions that focus on sustainability, including the WaterCycle system, which cleans, stores, and reuses roof water to conserve resources and minimize waste. Their patented flow restrictor and overflow technology also works to manage water ingress during extreme weather conditions, further enhancing the effectiveness of the blue roofs designed by Proteus.

This collaboration between Proteus Waterproofing and ACO Building Drainage highlights how strategic partnerships can drive efficiency and innovation in waterproofing across the construction industry. By prioritizing alignment on goals and values, the two companies are set to contribute significantly to the evolution of sustainable building practices.

MFM Building Products Announces Expansion

On August 8, MFM Building Products, a manufacturer of a full envelope of waterproofing and weather barrier products for the building industry based in Coshocton, Ohio, broke ground on a new warehouse expansion project, which will lead to further expansion in 2025. The 33,000 square foot expansion is being constructed at the company’s Brewer Lane warehouse, also located in Coshocton. The new building will adjoin the existing facility that currently houses MFM finished goods. The new space will provide the needed inventory space for raw materials as the company continues to grow. The expansion will also free up space in the company’s manufacturing facility for the addition of several new production lines in Q3 of 2025.
