Polyglass Opens New Facility in Phoenix

Polyglass U.S.A., a manufacturer of roofing and waterproofing systems, opened a new 62,000-sq.-ft. facility in Phoenix, Arizona, in December.  The facility is dedicated to manufacturing premium roof coatings and primers.

The company is based in Deerfield Beach, Florida.

The plant features 52,000 sq. ft. of manufacturing and warehousing space, doubling manufacturing capacity and adding automated equipment to improve efficiency and ergonomics. Expanded shipping and receiving facilities, a sophisticated quality testing and color matching laboratory, and a new customer service hub were also added.

The plant features automated computer-controlled ingredient delivery and recipe control equipment to increase accuracy and repeatability between batches. The Phoenix plant can run multiple mixes at a time and can easily be expanded, allowing Polyglass to significantly increase production.

Construction Specialties Makes Aquisition

Construction Specialties Inc. (CS), a manufacturer of specialty building products, has acquired Platform Manufacturing Group LLC, a steel fabrication company based in Melissa, Texas. The acquisition will allow CS to enter new markets and take on new partnership opportunities.

Platform’s product portfolio includes balconies, bridges, and a patented modular stair systems, among other products. Stairs, for example, are typically supplied by miscellaneous metal fabricators, and the accommodation of critical building movement is often overlooked or excluded from the design. While working closely with the engineering community, CS identified a gap within the evolving seismic market — stairs that remain intact while accommodating building drift. The combined know-how of CS’s seismic expertise and Platform’s modular stairs promises a soon-to-be-announced solution to deal with this long-standing industry challenge.

Tremco’s Waterproofing Divisions Reorganize

Tremco Inc. recently reorganized to combine several of the company’s construction-related product divisions and brands under a single corporate umbrella.

The new Tremco Construction Products Group (CPG) includes three Tremco divisions: commercial sealants and waterproofing, roofing and building maintenance, and Tremco Barrier Solutions. It also includes several new acquisitions to complete a portfolio includes water and vapor barrier systems for all vertical and horizontal surfaces and roofing and building maintenance solutions.

The acquisitions include Schul International Co. LLC and Willseal LLC. Schul is a Hudson, New Hampshire-based manufacturer of pre-compressed, self-expanding foam tapes used for sealing vertical and horizontal joints in commercial construction, infrastructure, OEM/industrial, and residential app-
lications. Also based in Hudson, Willseal is a sales and marketing company targeting these applications with products from Schul.

The Schul and Willseal subsidiaries will continue to operate under those names and will work in close alignment with Tremco’s Commercial Sealants & Waterproofing (CS&W) Division. The acquisition gives Tremco proprietary systems, including those that are fire rated to provide passive fire protection, and others that are pre-coated with silicone to deliver weather-tight joints. The systems are further differentiated by their use of monolithic foam, whereas competing products are made from several layers of foam that are then laminated together.

Tremco CPG also include Weatherproofing Technologies Inc.; Weatherproofing Technologies Canada; Nudura, a leading brand of insulated concrete form; and Dryvit, a popular brand of exterior finishes.

Therma-Stor Offers Crawlspace Class

The Therma-Stor family of brands, which includes Santa Fe, Quest Hi-E Dry, and Ultra Aire dehumidifiers, has developed a two-day class that focuses on the building science of crawlspaces. It is the only class of its kind offered.

While many companies are providing encapsulation services, few have trained experts that understand the building science required to ensure a fix to their customer’s problems. To address this, a collaborative effort of Santa Fe Dehumidifiers and leading crawl space research organization Advanced Energy developed the first Crawl Space Encapsulation Specialist Training Program.

This program provides an in-depth understanding of moisture, energy conservation, and engineering controls and how to manage each of these to install an encapsulation system that stops mold growth, eliminates bacterial odor, reduces pest infestation, and slows energy consumption. An exam completes the training process.

This combination lecture and hands-on course is currently being held at Reets Dry Academy in Sharpsburg, Georgia, a leading restorative drying education hands-on facility.

Alchemco Voted Most Innovative Product

Alchemco, a Henrico, Virginia-based waterproofing manufacturer, recently had its TechCrete 2500 waterproofing agent selected as the Most Innovative Product of 2020 at the World of Concrete convention in Las Vegas, Nevada. The product won top honors in the concrete materials category.

TechCrete 2500 penetrates into the concrete and forms a waterproofing gel. This solution quickly fills in cracks, pores, and capillaries to provide maximum concrete waterproofing and protection from the inside, so it can’t be worn away. Just as importantly, it seals future cracks that appear over time, as well.

One treatment of this spray-applied product lasts the design life of the concrete structure. TechCrete 2500 is non-toxic, 100% trafficable, and tolerates thermal stresses. This environmentally friendly waterproofing solution can qualify for either a 15-year or 30-year labor and material watertight warranty, when applied by an Alchemco certified contractor.
